Tour Description

You’ll take a register of ancient Greece antiquities on this trip. You’ll begin in Amfipoli , an important centre during the ancient period due to its strategic position. Afterwars you'll visit Philippi, a city where the first foundation stone was laid before records began. These days it’s a sketch of its former self, but the ruins still give a strong sense of what the city was once like. Rows of columns mark the spot of ancient churches, frescoes remain on the site of the Prison of St Paul, and there’s an amphitheater that’s in such good condition it’s still used to stage summer plays. While you’re here, you’ll also be able to see the battlefield of Philippi, where the heirs of Julius Cesar confronted his assassins during the Roman civil war. Moving on, you’ll visit Kavala, the second largest city in northern Greece. During a scenic drive you’ll see the city’s imposing aqueduct, which was built in Byzantine times. Plus, you’ll see the castle, which lords over the city from its hilltop position.
